As others have said if your installation never goes on the internet or has USBs with malware on them inserted you are safe and no need of anti virus. If you have the XP installation disk with the right licence then, in the event of motherboard failure and the impossibility of getting old hardware then you could install it in a Virtual Machine.Ĥ. So if you want to continue with XP then see if you can buy a backup motherboard.ģ. Also, XP will not have the drivers for new boards. Your licence may not allow you to transfer XP to another make and model of an old XP capable board. If your motherboard dies then you could be stuck both licence and hardware wise. (Hopefully you have the XP installation disk with the licence number.)Ģ. If you get bad file corruption or a hard drive failure then it would be useful to have an image of the existing hard drive so that the reinstall of your XP system is easy although Windows licencing just may produce a hiccup if it thinks the hardware (such as the hard drive) has significantly changed.
